That's the difference between looking at paintings on the webs or books and in real. Yet great-great works are still great in actual, like van Gogh's Room at Arles or my secret-loving Monet's The Port at Argenteuil. I've been cheered up and cured up in some ways. But what the ridiculous thing was there were paintings only about 50 or so outside those small pictures hanging on one side of the walls in a not very discreet way.

By the way, I saw a guy who looks like British there. I think this was my first time to listen to actual British accent and it was really way too much sexier than I thought. O My Lord, I almost had a crush on him just by hearing his voice. But he did seem to know paintings a lot and I just tracked his path down so I didn't need an audio guide unlike anybody else. Well, he might have noticed me or not. It's funny. Ah, he also commented about the scale of the exhibition. "It's miserable." Yes, you can say that again.

Exhibition of the masterworks of the Musee d'Orsay

Seoul Arts Center, Seoul

Apr. 21 - Sep. 2, 2007

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

06032007 | Sundays for opera

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5071700250841738370" style="FLOAT: left; I tried not to take it seriously and put it in my mind. Because I knew if I did, I would be kind of devastating and unable to concentrate on my work during a day.

Unfortunately, however, things haven't gone as I tried and I couldn't help but wondering myself a while.

I might have thought at first that she was in no position to say such a thing to me since she was absolutely being helped by me and dependant on me. Even so, I think I've never been arrogant or showing over about it. It's basically because she's senior than me and I respect the wisdom she might have gotten in her life. Besides I know the limit of my knowledge and I'd better be humble. So I was always extremely careful when I gave her opinions and advices to not to hurt her feelings.

But the later thing I was thinking about was directly related with my confidence as a professional. Am I really running out of clinical ideas on which I based to help patients and give them a care? It, of course, would be true that it's helpful if I as know as doctors about clinical symptoms. In fact, people in here kinda expect us to be pseudo-doctors and they might blame on me if I don't offer them stuff what they might expect me to have to.

After few hours, I've come to the conclusions. I admit that I am weak in clinical part and I want to know about it more. But I found out that what I want to know about is not things as doctors would do. Diagnosis and treatment are not my areas. Doctoring is not my job but also it's an abuse of authority which is very dangerous. What I gotta learn when it comes to clinical field is somewhat different. What I have to understand well is how the drug actually make it work out in our body systems, observation and study of patients' response to medication. I believe that's what I ought to do as a pharmacist.

Recognizing and freaking out on what she said to me is not shaking confidence, but changing of my belief. And I'm all happy about it cleared.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05192007 | Delight

Stop being blue

Joan Miró The Gold of the Azure

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05112007 | The reasons I blog

People are usual. A person is unique.

I just cannot simply squeeze myself into the gap between those two. For me, it's not like entering a living room just as opening up a door of my room. There are so many stops I have to make on the road here to there. I wouldn't certainly be able to ask directly someone totally strange, say, "It's been told this summer is gonna start sooner than any other years from May. So global warming. It really is a problem now, huh?" or "Joan Surtherland is a hell of a singer, isn't she?". There should be something like starting saying hello, having each other's names, some awkward moments and pause, beating around the bush and pause again before beginning a real conversation.

The thing is I don't particularly feel comfortable when I'm at the parties or clubs. All the necessary steps I'd better be through in a real conversation usually make me weird out a little bit. I find out myself in most cases where I end up giving up exploring someone in front of me. And I will probably add it up to my list again that, like 'people are still boring' or 'people who have got something in common with me are few and far between'.

But that turned out to be not true when I looked at on a monitor. It seems a whole different world with whole a lot different people and I can't help but wondering, where the hell are all these people? Where actually do they live? I found it easier to get acquaintance with people I want to make friends via internet. As a matter of fact, I've met some important people in my life who affected on me a lot thanks to the online. And those relationships never would be worked out if that started from in a real world, I guess. Not to mention the distance of the locations.

So this is why I blog. I blog to meet you living at a secret-hidden place somewhere out there. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05022007 | Some notable blogs of the day

During random blogging

La Tartine Gourmande

Via Negativa

pages turned

Of Books and Bicycles

Kimchi Mamas

Victorianitas Apparently it seems to be a problem of not my own though, hence somebody suggested a solution. You like what you have the most. Simple? Maybe. But here is a condition. Unconsciously. You have crush on composers that you have bought the most of the records without intention.

Bach, Mozart and Beethoven aside - as these would be the most for almost of you whether you like them or not, then my answer goes to... Schubert and Tchaikovsky. It's kind of inconceivable. I mean, I of course like them but just as normal amount as all the other music lovers would do. I've never thought I had special interests on them. Look at you. It's too melancholic! Why couldn't it be like Mendelssohn or Rossini?

Well, I might have to take this result. Maybe it might reflect my mind quite correctly. But I don't think I'm going to answer as them without hesitation when I'm asked this question yet. Well, for today at least. Because I got the highest record on the scrabble today. It was 84 and the word was 'farther'. It was pretty much a beginner's luck as you'd see if you do the math, but still. It was really really great.

04112007 | Alas, Korean

There are few things to what I can say 'absolutely no' and this is one of them even without thinking twice. Institutions in my country have been cited TWO times in this SHORT article described on the issue. What a pleasant surprise it is!

I actually wrote about this a few months ago privately, and now Ms.Suh's mention made me speak more publicly if I can say so. I'm totally oppose that making it mandatory something that universities increase English classes in their curriculum and college students must take them for the degrees.

I don't want to enumerate here how important language is from the fact that it makes us distinguish from other animals on earth. We already use it, everyday. It controls the way we think. I would not be of course a Frenchwoman as I speak French. But I am not Korean either as long as I speak and think in other languages. Language is culture, idea, and it's just about everything.

This is why so many Americans - and me, I admit- become helpless as hearing British English accent. This is again why British English tend to use '-re' in place of '-er' as in American English. This also explains why Japan so tormented us to use its tongue during the colonial era. This is why King Sejong put his every effort to achieve certain level on our mother tongue in every possible field of academic after he created it.

Colleges and universities play a critical role in the society as higher educational system. We lose more than earn if those are not functioning as what we expected to. And I would like to believe they know what is the first priority. Why would they take the responsibility for students' abilities of speaking English? Since when they are so obligated for their students? Teaching English is none of their business. If English is that necessary, having students take English exam is good enough just as they generally do for college entrance exams.

I hope they do realize what is the right thing to do. It's not a problem of 'having less efficiency or effectiveness of knowledge transfer' nor reality of 'seeing the benefits eventually'.

04052007 | About guys like Michael Scofield

He rarely speaks. There’s less explanation and more “trust me”. And he suddenly gives such a cold attitude when people would not do that.

My understanding is, just like Sara said, “trust me means absolutely zero” but not only ‘inside the walls’ but also in the other part of the world. I hardly believe people saying “trust me” too often. It’s not just limited to those stories like “You trust me? Come on” and ending up being dumped after one night. I think if they really have something to prove, they gotta do it by acting it not by saying it. I will trust ‘em after they actually show something that I can believe. And, unfortunately, it’s too hard to find someone who being turned out keeping his word.

So, Sara is so lucky to live in TV there. I’m 99.9% sure that someone like Michael wouldn’t be real. She is luckily stupid to believe a person like inmate and yet I can’t blame her. Ironically, despite I’m so wise to be aware of all, I’m jealous of her being in that situation, making that decision.

Trusting and being trusted really matters to me. More than loving and being loved, sometimes. It’s basically because, I guess, my parents both love me a lot and not believe me at all. I’ve been raised that way and I’m very careful to believe someone. But sometimes I’m so scared that I have only one person to trust. I’m so scared that I’m eagerly looking for one to trust with little faith because I already know the truth.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

04022007 | The long drought

It’s been a while. The drought in my mind. I am always sad when spring comes. Being sad after season of SAD. Quite an oxymoron. More pathetic, I forget how to tear now. I used to cry in silence listening to Schumann’s Dichterliebe in this time of year. I wanted to be a person who has a mild external appearance but a strong, confident mind all the time. But I am becoming a person having a weak spirit along with an insecure outer appearance which is exactly opposite to what I’m trying to be. I feel empty. Have no idea what I am doing by now. So you will never know how happy I am it’s still cold out there, there’s yellow dust all up in the air protecting me from arriving of damn spring.

<br Well, I have two other things over that on my side; music and mathematics. I guess those are two basic and universal languages that could explain us evolved and civilized at one tiny part of the cosmos to who, if any out there, probably might develop totally different ideas and tools. And I especially believe in person that music would be very helpful to get them know about us; There is love and friendship. And there is misunderstanding, conflict and hatred but also understanding, forgiveness and reconciliation. And for that, of course, I know I have to wish they had same audible range with us. ;P

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

03172007 | A cozy place to have music

So I tread along the aisle trying not to express glee being surrounded by tons of CDs. Then one of the staffs shows up with big smile asking, "Would you like some tea or coffee?"

Here is a place I'd love to drop by to buy records or just even to get some freshness. It's a specialized record shop for classical music. It's not as regular as can happen everywhere because classical music is not being enjoyed by broad and various people here in my country although we have some particular enthusiasts with solid background on it. So there have been huge concerns on its possibilities when it has first been announced that a classical music record shop was going to be built at the very central area in the city. And for the record, classical music market has been coming through tough time worldwide.

But, fortunately and proudly, I heard recently that it's planning to move to a larger space. Like people working there said, it doesn't mean they made a big profit in past years. But it's really good for them and all of us loving classical music as well. I'm so happy for them.

You may also stop by here even if you are not going to buy anything or not even a fan of classical music. You will always be welcomed with warm a cup of tea. So if you happen to visit my country, why don't you try? :) If the time is so perfect, you're gonna get invited a wine party!

> Taken from Poongwoldang, a record shop in Seoul. Take some candies and snack as you want.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

03152007 | A parade

One of the strangest cultures of America for me is parading. It's simply because I'm not familiar with it. The last parade that I've seen in my country lately was World Cup soccer players' for celebrating their huge success. Well, wait. Come to think of it, we actually used to parade quite often - a very long long time ago. That was a definitely different age from now. So I still don't get why Americans are so crazy for parades. For me, it's just large big balloons, walking in a row and having to wait to cross the road. ;P

Taken from 29th (maybe) Anniversary Christmas Parade in San Jose, CA last year. It's pretty obvious though. Well, it would've been better if I had seen some more great book titles on it, like The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse, My Sweet Orange Tree by Jos Mauro de Vasconcelos, Perfume by Patrick Suskind or Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. I think these are the classics even though they were not originally written in English. Anyway, I'd like to introduce some other good books I can't live without. I mean, you're going to like it if you had any chance to try it - written in my mother tongue, of course. ;P

Letters From Wildflowers by Dae-Kwon Hwang

This book contains more than a message from mother nature. The author had been in jailed for over than 13 years without any justifying reasons and this is the record from there - not in a voice of angry or offence. He found out a reason to live by planting wildflowers around his small cell and could reconstitute his thought to the world. A very calm and peaceful story than any other meditations.

Tyogye and Gobong being writing translated by YD Kim

Yep! Another collection of letters. Tyogye and Gobong were both historic figures who accomplished great academic achievement in Josun Dynasty. Tyogye was particularly the one of the two mastering one form of Confucianism. They exchanged and shared their views on the philosophy by writing a letter each other although Tyogye was older than 25 years than Gobong and already got an important position while Gobong just passed the exam which was required to whom wanted to be a government officer at that time. So this is a very unique and decisive lettering which can help us realizing what is the true attitude to researching and understanding their great thoughts as well.

p.s. I'm sorry for any poor translations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

03142007 | 100 Books You Can't Live Without

Yesterday I came across some exciting post (here) and decided to try it myself with some changes. The original article was published on World Book Day (March 1st) at The Guardian.

Bold the ones I've read and italic the ones I've ever tried to read yet haven't finished.
Bold and underlined means that I especially CAN'T-LIVE-WITHOUT although which doesn't always mean I've read them more than once.
